A Registered Nurse Specializing in the Biofeedback Process

About Biofeedback

Biofeedback is a process that enables an individual to learn
how to change physiological activity for the purposes of improving health and performance. Precise instruments measure physiological activity such as brainwaves, heart function, breathing, muscle activity, and skin temperature.

These instruments rapidly and accurately “feed back” information to the user. The presentation of this information; often in conjunction with changes in thinking, emotions, and behavior, supports desired physiological changes. Over time, these changes can endure without continued use of an instrument.

Objectives of Biofeedback:

  • Biofeedback is used to increase relaxation, relieve pain, and the effects of stress and is used to train awareness and mindfulness for the promotion of healthier and more comfortable life patterns.

  • Biofeedback helps people develop greater awareness and voluntary control over their physiological processes that are otherwise outside awareness and/or under less voluntary control.

Biofeedback works because of two basic mind/body laws:

  • Any change in our physical state results in a change in our mental/emotional state; any change in our mental/emotional state results in a concomitant change in our physical state.

  • Any physiological processes that can be monitored and fed back in a meaningful way can be controlled.

About Linda MacKenzie, RN, BCB BCIA#4731

Linda has passion for Integrative Healthcare. As a Registered Nurse since 1981, Linda has worked as a Labor & Delivery Nurse and specialized in the education of childbearing families in birth, relaxation, breathwork, movement & Infant Massage. She was impressed how easy and quick it was for people to learn to self-regulate their parasympathetic nervous system thus getting to states of relaxation, mindfulness & coherence. In 2002, Linda became a Certified Biofeedback Therapist and trains people throughout the Truckee and Lake Tahoe region in these helpful Biofeedback techniques.

When not training in Biofeedback you can find Linda enjoying the beautiful, serene environment and fresh air of Lake Tahoe with her husband and dog.
